Power Encyclopedia | What is electrical steel? What is oriented electrical steel?
Electrical steel, also known as silicon steel sheet, is an indispensable soft magnetic alloy for power, electronics and military industries, and is also the largest metal functional material, mainly used as the iron core of various motors, generators and transformers. Its production process is complex, manufacturing technology is strict, and foreign production technology is protected in the form of patents, which is regarded as the life of enterprises. The manufacturing technology and product quality of electrical steel plate is one of the important signs to measure the level of special steel production and scientific and technological development of a country. The quantity, quality and specification of cold-rolled electrical steel in China can not meet the needs of the development of energy (electric power) industry, and there is a big gap compared with Japan in terms of production technology, equipment, management and scientific research.
Oriented Electrical Steel is also known as cold-rolled oriented silicon steel (English name: Grain Oriented Flatrolled Electrical Steel), which refers to the cold-rolled electrical steel containing 2.9% ~ 3.5%Si, and the crystal structure of the steel plate has a certain rule and direction. Oriented electrical steel is an indispensable soft magnetic material in the power industry, which is mainly used in transformer, rectifier, reactor and large motor industries. The Ministry of Commerce announced that it ruled that there is dumping of imported oriented electrical steel products originating in Japan, South Korea and the European Union, which damages China's domestic oriented electrical steel industry, and decided to impose anti-dumping duties on imported oriented electrical steel products originating in these countries and regions from July 23, with a tax rate of 37.3% to 46.3%, and the implementation period is five years.

The key to the production of Gauss texture silicon steel is the use of secondary recrystallization. In order to achieve secondary recrystallization, it is usually necessary to add normal grain growth inhibitors, such as MnS, to the alloy. The grain growth inhibitor must be dispersed in the alloy matrix in a mixed form, which can effectively prevent the normal growth of the matrix crystal pull when secondary recrystallization occurs, and at the same time, it is required to be conveniently eliminated in the final high temperature annealing so as not to deteriorate the magnetic properties of the product. In secondary recrystallization, orientation nuclei of secondary grain growth are mainly generated by appropriate cold rolling process and recrystallization annealing. Because phase transitions disrupt grain orientation, it is essential to maintain a single phase during heat treatment.
Cold rolled electrical silicon steel sheet, divided into oriented silicon steel sheet and non-oriented silicon steel sheet and dw material. Cold-rolled non-oriented silicon steel sheets for motors are commonly supplied in rolls with thickness of 0.35 and 0.50mm, and their silicon content is generally low; The common thickness of cold-rolled oriented silicon steel sheets for transformers is 0.20, 0.30, 0.35, 0.50mm, and their silicon content is generally high.
